Canada, Eh?
Meet a Mountie in Copley Square this week

For Bostonians who cannot go to Canada, Canada is coming to them. The Next Stop . . . Canada! festival, hosted by the Canadian Tourism Commission, runs today and tomorrow from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. in Boston’s Copley Square. The organizers promise an authentic Canadian experience, highlighting the best of different cities and regions, with activities ranging from oyster and wine tastings to exhibitions by tightrope walkers paying tribute to the daredevils of Niagara Falls. And don’t forget the Mounties, more formally known as the Royal Canadian Mounted Police.
Today’s theme is the best of Ottawa: there will be performances from the Ottawa International Chamber Music Festival, a Canadian aboriginal hoop dancer, free oysters, and carving demonstrations from the famous culinary school Le Cordon Bleu. Tomorrow is all about Niagara — and although Copley Square was unable to re-create Niagara’s famous falls, visitors can still have their picture taken in a barrel as if they were preparing to go over, just like in the old days.
Next Stop . . . Canada! takes place Thursday, May 29, and Friday, May 30, from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. in Copley Square Park, Boston. For more information, visit the event listing on the WGBH Web site.
