Celebrating Summer in the South End
Outdoor concert combines jazz, funk, and circus festivities
Titus Sparrow Park’s weekly summer Jazz and World Music Concert Series takes a southerly turn tonight with the funky New Orleans jazz band Revolutionary Snake Ensemble. The band, led by saxophonist-composer Ken Field, is based in Boston. But the group’s horn and percussion–heavy music, performed in feathered masks and sequined robes, can turn any space, even the park’s grassy meadow amphitheater, into Mardis Gras on Bourbon Street.
ExtraTerrestrial Circus Experiment an Ohio-based circus troupe, also will perform. The troupe specializes in “object manipulation and super fun fancy free freaking fabulous fantasms [and] extraEspecialize in devil sticking, hula-hooping, sphereplaying, belly dancing, fire spinning.”
The show starts at 6:30 p.m., tonight, July 2, and will consist of two 45-minute sets. Admission is free, and blankets and low beach chairs are welcome. Titus Sparrow Park is in the South End, on West Newton Street between Huntington Avenue and Columbus Avenue, easily accessible from the Orange Line’s Back Bay and Mass Ave stops or the Green Line’s Prudential Stop.
