Local Playwrights Get a Platform for New Work
New Plays Festival runs this week at Boston Playwrights’ Theatre

Tonight, the 36th annual Boston Playwrights’ Platform New Plays Festival begins its second weekend of performances of short plays by local playwrights.
The lineup includes Gail Phaneuf’s Stop Requested, about a conversation between strangers on a city bus, and R. Holly Jensen’s Cut, about a couple having their first child, as religious traditions and family pressures create chaos before the baby even arrives. The not-for-profit Boston Playwrights’ Platform comprises Boston area playwrights, directors, and actors dedicated to helping one another get the opportunity to produce new plays and to providing a place where their work can be tried, tested, and refined.
The Boston Playwrights’ Platform New Plays Festival will be held Thursday, June 19, Friday, June 20, and Saturday, June 21, at 8 p.m., at the Boston Playwrights’ Theatre, 949 Commonwealth Ave. Tickets can be purchased online for $17, with discounts available for students, seniors, and members.
