School of music presents Verdi’s Requiem
The BU Symphony Orchestra and BU Symphonic Chorus perform Giuseppe Verdi’s Requiem tonight at 8 p.m. at Boston’s Symphony Hall. Led by conductor Ann Howard Jones, a College of Fine Arts professor of music and director of choral activities, the two ensembles will be accompanied by four guest artists: soprano Eleni Calenos (CFA’08), mezzo-soprano Stephanie Chigas (CFA’05), tenor Yeghishe Manucharyan (CFA’01), and bass Simon Estes, a CFA music professor.
A powerful composition, the Requiem is a reflection on life and death. Written to commemorate Italian poet and humanist Alessandro Manzoni, the piece conveys the emptiness that follows the loss of a life, as well as the universal hope for redemption.
Verdi’s Requiem will be performed at Symphony Hall, 301 Massachusetts Ave., on Monday, April 7, at 8 p.m. For tickets, call 617-266-1200 or visit the Symphony Hall box office.
