Some people know what they want to study before they get to college. Others spend their college careers trying out different fields to see what piques their fancy. Ward Farnsworth knew all along that his passion was for teaching itself.
“The experiences I had in the classroom as a student were the most exciting experiences I ever had,” he says. “After college, I deliberated about how to get into teaching, and decided law was the intersection of many different approaches to problem solving and thought — economics, political science, and philosophy, all on a practical level. I have been here at BU ever since.”
A professor in the School of Law specializing in economic analysis, jurisprudence, tort law, and constitutional law and rhetoric, Farnsworth has been honored with the United Methodist Church Scholar/Teacher of the Year award. He was presented with the award at the University-wide fall meeting of the Faculty Assembly, held at the School of Law Auditorium last month.
The award, established by the General Board of Higher Education and Ministry of the United Methodist Church, recognizes faculty members for their dedication and contributions to the learning arts and to the institution. It is conferred at colleges and universities historically affiliated with the Methodist Church and includes a $2,000 unrestricted stipend.
