Top Terrier Moments: Number 3 — Ryan, James Double Up on All-America Honors
Track standouts become first BU outdoor/indoor All-Americans in 13 years
Kicking off the top three of the Terrier Twelve are the All-America track and field achievements of Tahari James (SAR’09) and Marisa Ryan (CAS’07, MED’10). Each earned All-America honors in both the indoor and the outdoor season,marking the first time in BU history that two women have accomplished that feat inthe same year.
At last month’s NCAA Outdoor Track and Field Championships,Ryan finished fourth in the 10,000-meter run, with a time of 33:54.38, and James’ 13.30-meter mark in the triple jump finals clinched ninth place.James’ distance of 13.68 meters in the preliminaries set a new school recordand qualified her for the Olympic trials.
Ryan also earned All-America status during the indoor season,running a 9:12.83 time in the 3000 meters, for fifth place. James’ 13.42-meterdistance in the triple jump took sixth place and clinched her All-America designation.
They were the first Terriers to take All-America honors in boththe indoor and the outdoor season since Christine Stief achieved the featin 1995.
James and Ryan were instrumental in helping the Terrier womenclaim their third straight America East indoor team title in additionto their first outdoor title since 1993.
