Two XC Terriers Qualify for NCAAs
Andrea Walkonen, Erin Lagasse will compete in New York next week

Boston University cross country runners Andrea Walkonen (SAR’09) and Erin Lagasse(COM’10) qualified for the NCAA Women’s Cross Country Championship at theNortheast Regional meet on November 15 at Van Cortlandt Park inthe Bronx. Walkonen finished second and Lagasse was eighth in the247-runner field to help the Terriers finish 8th out of34 teams, with 228 points.
Walkonen completed the 6K course in 20:57.8, just over a secondbehind the regional winner, senior Danette Doetzel of Providence.Lagasse followed in 21:46.8 to claim the final automatic individualqualifying spot in the region. The Friars, with 36 points, captured the regionalchampionship, and Syracuse’s 90 points secured it second place. The top two teams automatically advance to the nationalchampionship, and the top four individual finishers who are not on those teamsqualify as well.
Sarah Mosser (COM’10) finished 53rd in the meet, crossing in 22:56.6, and Katie Matthews (SAR’12), in 83rd at 23:21:9, and 84th place Kathleen Davies (COM’11), at 23:24:5, rounded out the scoring.
Mollie Zapata (CAS’09) (106th, 23:45.7) and Molly James (COM’12) (171st, 24:44.0) completed the BU contingent at the regional meet.
Walkonen and Lagasse will now compete at the NCAA Women’s Cross Country Championship on Monday, November 24, in Terre Haute, Ind.
