University Recognizes RAs
Firas Yaghi (CAS’08) is one of the resident assistants being recognized during RA Appreciation Week

This week is RA Appreciation Week, and BU Today is highlighting a few of the outstanding resident advisors on campus.
Despite a hectic schedule, Firas Yaghi (CAS’08), a first-year resident assistant in Myles Standish Hall, is always smiling, says Paul Hughes, Myles Standish Hall and Myles Annex residence hall director. “He’s just such an incredibly compassionate and thoughtful individual who’s really made an effort to get to know his residents,” Hughes says. “He follows through when residents have concerns and always seeks input from his supervisor, providing the best information.”
Yaghi, an international student who transferred to BU, wanted to become an RA to help make the transition to the University easier for new — particularly new international — students. “I wanted to help the residents enjoy their on-campus stay just like I did,” he says.
Yaghi is in the B.A./M.A. program in economics and is on the executive board of the Lebanese Club and the Palestinian-Israeli Peace Alliance. He says that balancing his classes and extracurricular activities wouldn’t be possible without the help of Hughes and fellow RAs. “What I like the most about being an RA is the team spirit across the whole Office of Residence Life,” he says.
“I believe it is great to recognize not only the efforts of the 270 RAs working around campus, but also the whole Office of Residence Life,” Yaghi says. “They are all working day and night to provide a safe, enjoyable, and learning-friendly environment for all campus residents.”
