Rory Stewart talks about his Afghan trek today

Rory Stewart, director of Harvard’s Kennedy School of Government Carr Center for Human Rights Policy, will speak about his New York Times best-sellinng memoir The Places in Between at the Castle today at 5 p.m., sponsored by the College of Arts and Sciences Core Curriculum Core Current Affairs Association. The book chronicles Stewart’s 2002 walk across Afghanistan following the collapse of Taliban rule. See an excerpt from The Places in Between here.
Stewart, who became Carr Center director January 1, 2009, is the founder and chief executive of the Turquoise Mountain Foundation, a nonprofitorganization dedicated to the regeneration of the historiccommercial center of Kabul, Afghanistan. The foundation has restored more than 50buildings, created an institute to train women and men intraditional crafts, helped businesses to export, installed drainageand water supply, established a clinic and a primary school, andpromoted Afghan culture through international exhibitions.
Stewart will speak at 5 p.m. Thursday, January 29, at the Castle, 225 Bay State Rd. The event is free and open to the public.
