An Evening at Isabella Stewart Gardner’s Place
Fenway museum open late tonight for Third Thursday
Live your own version of Night at the Museum via the Isabella Stewart Gardner Museum’s Third Thursdays. The Fenway museum keeps its courtyard and galleries open after hours for live music, cocktails, and arty conversation on the third Thursday of each month. While the museum — built by Mrs. Jack in 1903 to display her extensive, eclectic art collection — is a must-see at any time of day, the addition of a courtyard bar and Berklee School of Music performers makes for a more social art appreciation experience.
Tonight’s event, Mezze, has a Mediterranean theme: a self-guided gallery tour features Middle Eastern and Southern Spanish objects, and the Berklee Middle Eastern Fusion Ensemble will perform a blend of traditional and contemporary Middle Eastern music from Egypt, Lebanon, Turkey, and Andalusia, featuring vocals, strings, percussion, and woodwinds, at 7 p.m. as part of After Hours Plus (tickets for Plus are extra). Violinist Emil Altschuler will play in the courtyard from 5:30 to 8:30; the galleries are open for sketching, and the bar and café are open for snacking.
This month’s Third Thursday takes place tonight, June 18, from 5:30 to 9:30 p.m. at the Isabella Stewart Gardner Museum, 280 The Fenway, Boston, 617-566-1401. Admission: $12 for adults, $5 for college students with ID, and free for anyone named Isabella (no kidding). Tickets for After Hours Plus, which include the Middle Eastern Fusion Ensemble show, are $23 for adults and $10 for college students with ID. Take the Green Line E train to the Museum stop.
