Students from around New England display photos at annual PRC exhibition
Click on the slide show above to see images from the PRC Student Exhibition and to hear Alicia Zamarro, Lindsay Nolin, and Alex Uncapher talk about their work.
Alex Uncapher doesn’t need to talk about feeling steamrolled by the pressure to create great photography — his flattened self-portrait says it all.
“I started taking photos when I was in third grade, and by high school I was spending most of my time in the darkroom,” says Uncapher, who earned a certificate from the Center for Digital Imaging Arts at Boston University in 2008. “I just can’t put the camera down — I’m always thinking about images and getting new ideas.”
Uncapher’s work is on display at the annual Student Exhibition of the Photographic Resource Center at Boston University, which includes student work from 19 PRC institutional member schools from around New England. The work is juried by the individual schools and then is submitted to the PRC.
Northeastern University senior Alicia Zamarro grabbed her image Sunset on the Zaterre by following a guy sporting a mohawk in Venice. “I was studying abroad in Venice, taking Venetian art history and digital photography classes,” she says. “I couldn’t get the image at first, so I kept following him.”
But not everyone takes on such exotic subjects; Lindsay Nolin, a senior at the New England Institute of Art, stayed closer to home for her photograph Dad. “At first, I don’t think my family knew what to do when I started taking so many photos of them,” she says. “But now they’re pretty used to it.”
The PRC Student Exhibition runs through March 15, 2009. The center is open Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Fridays from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m., Thursdays from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m., and Saturdays and Sundays from noon to 5 p.m. Admission is $3 for students and $2 for seniors; free for members of the BU community and for children under 18.
