Comm Ave Classic: BU vs. BC in HE Men’s Hockey Semifinals
Three taps to the chest, a bracelet for a friend

The laurels keep coming. On March 18, when Chris Connolly (CGS’10) and Kieran Millan (CAS’12) of the top-ranked Terrier men’s ice hockey team were named to the 2008–09 Hockey East All-Rookie Team, Boston University became the only school to have two players on the seven-member team. And three days earlier, when the team stomped the Black Bears 6-2, BU became the first school to advance to the Hockey East semifinals for eight straight seasons. That contest begins tonight, when the Terriers take on Boston College at the TD Banknorth Garden.
Skill, strength, endurance, teamwork, and solid coaching are all part of the mix, but a good chunk of winning comes from believing you can win. Exactly how a team conjures up that confidence is often one of its best kept secrets. In the slide show above, hockey captains John McCarthy (CAS’09) and Matt Gilroy (MET’09) talk about pregame routines, superstition, and the importance of having fun on the ice.
The Terriers battle Boston College today, Friday, March 20, at 8 p.m. in the Hockey East conference semifinals at the TD Banknorth Garden.
