Downtown Sound
It’s July, it’s Boston, it’s Jazz

Boston renews its reputation as a music hub with the eighth incarnation of Jazz in July.
Sponsored by Downtown Crossing, the monthlong series brings more than 25 performances to the area, on city streets through the afternoons and into downtown restaurants like Max & Dylan’s and Ivy in the evenings. Performers include the groups Musique, Code 51, and the Marlene Jazz Duo.
Mantra, 52 Temple Place, is where it’s happening tonight, July 21, from 7 to 9 p.m., featuring Jazz in the Air, a Boston group specializing in the old standards. If the drinks cost a little too much for your budget, substitute a free concert at noon, featuring MacWilliams, a Dixieland trio, as part of the Norman B. Leventhal Park Summer Concert Series. The park is an interesting landmark in its own right, green space above the garage at Post Office Square.
The Jazz in July series runs through July. To get to Downtown Crossing, take the Green Line inbound to Park Street and then hop out and walk a block down Winter Street. More information on dates, times, and locations is available here. The Norman B. Leventhal Park Summer Concert Series goes through August. To get to Post Office Square, continue down Winter Street another two blocks. A full listing of dates and groups is here.
