The Xanthos Ensemble performs tonight
Whether composing for clarinet or computer, Alejandro Viñao’s works are nothing if not original — and tonight the Xanthos Ensemble takes a turn with the contemporary composer’s pieces Khan Variations, Tumblers, and Cuaderno del Ritmo.
Founded in 2005, the Xanthos Ensemble brings fresh, inspirational,and high-quality performances of contemporary chambermusic to new audiences. Through a combination of an internationallyrecognized repertoire and world premieres of works dedicated to theensemble, the ensemble’s mission is to bring newmusic to life. Since its inception, pieces have been written for theensemble in collaboration with living composers, and to that aim it has premiered dozens of works and has had several newly composedworks dedicated to it.
The performers include Sarah Brady, flute; Juliet Lai, clarinet; Brendavan der Merwe, violin; Eunyoung Kim, piano; George Nickson, percussion;and Jeffrey Means, conductor. Special guests include Oana Lacatus,violin; Ashleigh Gordon, viola; Brandon Brooks, cello, and AkikoKikuchi, double bass.
The Xanthos Ensemble performs at 7:30 p.m. tonight, April 8, in Morse Auditorium, 602 Commonwealth Ave., presented by the Boston University College ofFine Arts school of music department of composition and theory. Admission is $15 ($10 students and seniors), free to BU faculty, staff, and students with valid BU ID.
