New Trustees and Overseer Announced

Andrew R. Lack, CEO of Bloomberg Multimedia Group, Richard D. Reidy, president and CEO of Progress Software and chair of Boston University’s Board of Overseers, and Nina C. Tassler, president of CBS Entertainment, were recently elected University trustees, Robert A. Knox (CAS’74, GSM’75), chair of the BU Board of Trustees, has announced. They will begin their terms as trustees in September.

Knox also reports that psychologist Gayle R. Berg has been appointed an overseer of Boston University, effective immediately.

“We are very pleased to welcome Andrew Lack, Rick Reidy, and Nina Tassler to the Board of Trustees, as well as Dr. Gayle Berg to the Board of Overseers,” says Knox. “Each of them is an extraordinary addition to the University’s governing bodies, and we look forward to collaboration with them to meet the significant challenges ahead and to capitalize on our future opportunities.”

Lack (CFA’68) is responsible for managing Bloomberg’s 24-hour television business and financial news network, as well as its radio and Web-based news outlets, served by 2,300 journalists in 140 countries. He is a former president of NBC and NBC News. Under his leadership, the division had several of the nation’s most watched programs, among them NBC Nightly News with Tom Brokaw, The Today Show, and Dateline NBC. More recently, he was chair and CEO of Sony Music Entertainment, which merged in 2004 with Bertelsmann AG’s music division to create Sony BMG Music Entertainment, the second-largest recording company in the world, where he was chair until 2008.

Reidy (SMG’82), as chair of the Board of Overseers, has served as an ex-officio trustee since September 2007. He was recently named head of Progress Software, based in Bedford, Mass., a global provider of leading application infrastructure software to develop, deploy, integrate, and manage business applications. Reidy also serves on the Leadership Advisory Board of BU’s College of Engineering.

Tassler (CFA’79), currently a University overseer, supervises CBS network’s entertainment programming for prime time, late night, and daytime, as well as program development for all genres, including comedy, drama, reality, specials, movies, and miniseries. Since assuming responsibility for the entertainment division, she has introduced the critically acclaimed comedies How I Met Your Mother, The New Adventures of Old Christine, and most recently, The Big Bang Theory. This fall, under Tassler’s guidance, CBS debuted The Mentalist, ranked number one among the new series of the 2008-2009 season.

Berg (SAR’74) earned a Ph.D. in psychology from New York University. She is a current member of the Dean’s Advisory Board at BU’s Sargent College of Health & Rehabilitation Sciences and the Center for Psychiatric Rehabilitation. Committed to mental health advocacy, Berg has served as chair of PLANY (Psychologists for Legislative Action in New York), the state’s political action committee for psychology, since 1998, and chair of the Nassau County Psychological Association’s Legislative Committee. She is an active board member of New York State Psychological Association’s Council of Representatives, and she has a full-time private practice in Roslyn, N.Y.
