Pardee House Seminar on Food and Microfinance
Seminar explores transforming the future of food insecurity for poor people
The Frederick S. Pardee Center for the Study of the Longer-Range Future will hold a lunch seminar on Microfinance for Food and Development at the Pardee House on Wednesday, January 21, to discuss the topic Microfinance for Food and Development.
The seminar is the first of the new semester and the second in a series of seminars related to food and development supported by The Netherlands Ministry of Agriculture, Land and Food Quality.
The seminar will feature a discussion panel including Ann Helwege, an adjunct professor in the College of Arts and Sciences department of international relations and a senior research fellow at the Global Development and Environment Institute at Tufts University, Pablo Suarez (GRS’05), a research fellow at the Pardee Center and with the Red Cross/Red Crescent Climate Center, and Marjorie Victor, a policy advisor with Oxfam America.
The seminar will explore how current trends and new possibilities in credit, insurance, and other tools may transform the future of food insecurity for poor people, in particular in the context of the agenda of the forthcoming meeting of the UN Commission on Sustainable Development.
The Pardee Seminar Series focuses on a variety of interdisciplinary issues and invites experts from different disciplines to discuss the long-range challenges and trends in that particular issue.
