President Brown Elected to AICUM Executive Committee
Brown to serve as vice chair and chair-elect

Boston University President Robert A. Brown was chosen by the Association of Independent Colleges and Universities in Massachusetts (AICUM) as vice chair and chair-elect of the organization’s executive committee at its annual meeting in May. Brown will be vice chair until June 1, 2010, when he will become chair.
Founded in 1967, the organization of 60 Massachusetts accredited degree-granting independent colleges and universities advocates for state and federal funding for financial aid and represents institutions of higher learning on many other legislative and regulatory issues at the state and national level.
Debra Townsley, president of Nichols College, in Dudley, was elected chair, and Linda Turner, president of Urban College, in Boston, was elected treasurer.
The committee also welcomed several new members, from Wentworth Institute of Technology, Berklee College of Music, Hampshire College, Pine Manor College, Western New England College, and the New England College of Optometry.
