The Week That Seniors Celebrate
Green Monster visits, harbor cruising, and champagne toasts
Classes are wrapped. Finals are history. Commencement is days away. It’s the last hiatus, the end of college life, and it’s right now.
Senior Week, organized by the Student Activities Office, aims to pack in as much hanging out with classmates, and checking out interesting locales, as humanly possible. Here’s an updated list of what’s going on, but be sure to check for ticket availability.
Today
Tour Fenway Park
Get a behind-the-scenes tour of one of America’s oldest ballparks. Those with tickets must arrive at the Souvenir Shop on Yawkey Way by 12:15 p.m. Tours last approximately one hour. Word is that this event has sold out, so it’ll take some last-minute ingenuity to get a ticket.
Marina Bay Beach Party
Head to Marina Bay Beach Club in Quincy for a night of food, beach volleyball, billiards, and dancing. Buses will depart from the GSU at 8:30 p.m. and begin shuttling people back to campus beginning at 11 p.m. BU seniors must be 18-plus and all guests must be 21-plus for cash bar. Tickets are $25, limited to two per person.
Tuesday, May 12
Harbor Cruise
Cruise Boston Harbor, with a night of dancing and drinks. BU seniors must be 18-plus and guests must be 21-plus for cash bar. The boat boards at 6:45 p.m., sets sail at 8 p.m., and returns to port at 11 p.m. Transportation will be provided back to campus. Dress is casual; rain or shine. Seating is limited, and close to (if not already) sold out, so check on this one in a hurry.
Wednesday, May 13
Senior Ball
It’s a ball — future alums convene at the Senior Ball at the 808 Gallery in the Fuller Building. Non-BU guests are welcome. There is a cash bar for those 21-plus. Doors open at 9 p.m. and the event ends at 1 a.m. Tickets are $30, limited to two per person, and are still available, so no need to crash.
Thursday, May 14
Fenway Park BBQ
Eat, relax, and take in the sights at Fenway Park. The event will run from noon to 4 p.m. and will be held on the Big Concourse overlooking the field (a great photo-op!). Ballpark food will be served, and there will be a 21-plus cash bar. Tickets are $15, limited to two per person. Word is that 2,000 people already have signed up, so it’ll be a party for sure.
Tour of Fenway Park
Get a behind-the-scenes tour of one of America’s oldest ballparks. Those with tickets (and if you don’t have them by now, they’ll be hard to get) must arrive at the Souvenir Shop on Yawkey Way by 12:15 p.m. Tours last approximately one hour.
Friday, May 15
Champagne Reception
Join friends, family, deans, and administrators at the annual champagne reception in honor of the Class of 2009. Reception begins at 4 p.m. on the Warren Alpert Mall (a.k.a. BU Beach) overlooking the Charles River and ends at 6 p.m. Tickets are $15. If the weather’s good, this is sure to be the biggest event leading into Commencement — 3,000 people have signed up already, and that’s a whole lot of champagne!
