In the video above, students reflect on President Obama’s first year in office.
When Barack Obama became our first African-American president one year ago, he did so largely because of the enthusiasm and support of the country’s young adults. Now, looking back on a year that saw the worst economic crisis since the Great Depression and the continuing of two unpopular and hugely expensive wars, it’s hard to imagine a more stressful freshman year in the White House.
National polls and news reports suggest that Americans are split on whether the president’s first year was a success or a failure, but what about the youth who helped to put Obama in office? Curious to discover whether they are equally divided, we took our cameras to the George Sherman Union to ask students what they make of President Obama’s first year in charge.
