Athletes Awarded

An accomplished group of nine seniors and one junior were honored on Monday evening at Boston University’s annual student-athlete awards reception, held at the Metcalf Trustee Center. Highlights of the event included America East Most Outstanding Swimmer Tyson Slesnick (SMG’10) receiving the Mickey Cochrane award and All-American Casey Brown (COM’10) (women’s soccer) and April Setterlund (SMG’11) (softball) sharing the Mildred Barnes accolade — given annually to the top male and female athletes.
The E. Ray Speare and Gretchen Schuyler awards, given to the top male and female scholar-athletes, were awarded to Tyler Morris (SMG’10) of the men’s basketball team and Emily Munday (CAS’10) of the women’s swimming and diving team. Women’s soccer cocaptain Emily Pallotta (SMG’10) was named the 2010 BU Woman of the Year; Sarah Appleton (CAS’10) of the women’s ice hockey team and Sammy Appiah (MET’10) of the men’s soccer team were the recipients of the John B. Simpson Award, given to both a male and a female senior who has demonstrated enthusiasm and leadership. Ashley Leichliter (CAS’10) of the women’s ice hockey team and Kristen Williams (SMG’10) of the women’s swimming and diving team received the Student-Athlete Service awards.
