From Tank Shells to Coral Reefs
Student film a finalist for spot in Dallas International Film Festival
The National Guard is going green in unexpected ways, and Megan Masur (COM’12) contributed to a documentary about one of its initiatives. Masur was one of 16 students, ages 17 to 22, chosen from a pool of 1,500 applicants by the National Guard Docs Program for its four film crews. The young filmmakers traveled to Minnesota, Nevada, South Carolina, and Texas to explore the Guard’s green programs and produce a documentary.
The film Masur worked on, Tank Dropping, is a finalist for a spot in the Dallas International Film Festival.
Tank Dropping is a firsthand look at how the South Carolina National Guard is recycling empty tank shells by dumping them into the ocean to anchor thriving coral reefs.
Voting for Masur’s film is open through February 15. The winning documentary team will receive an all-expenses paid trip in April to Dallas for the screening.
The Dallas International Film Festival showcases more than 650 feature and short films from all over the world.
