Dear Abbeys Rock the Weekend
A cappella group performs tonight and Sunday
If you’re a Dear Abbeys fan (and who isn’t?), this weekend offers a double-dip treat.
Boston University’s premier all-male a cappella group performs tonight at the Revere Beach National Sand Sculpting Festival 2011, from 5 to 8 p.m., and again on Sunday, July 17, at 3 p.m. at the George Sherman Union Metcalf Ballroom as part of a lineup featuring the a cappella group Ball in the House and NOTA, a group comprised of champions from NBC’s hit show The Sing Off.
The Dear Abbeys were founded in 1992 and have steadily gained recognition in Boston and nationwide for their energetic (and sometimes goofy) performances. From Bonnie Raitt to Aerosmith and Rihanna to Vampire Weekend, these guys cover a broad range of artists during their entertaining performances.
In 2005, the Dear Abbeys won the International Championship of Collegiate A Cappella, in New York City. The group has traveled from Alaska to the Florida Keys to bring, as they say, “the joy of a cappella to K-12 choir programs.”
To attend tonight’s free concert, take any MBTA Green Line trolley to Government Center and switch to a Blue Line trolley to Revere Beach station, which is one block from the Sand Sculpting Festival, on Revere Beach Boulevard. Single tickets to Sunday’s event at the Metcalf Ballroom, George Sherman Union, 775 Commonwealth Ave., second floor, will be sold at the door for $20 each and family tickets for $15 each.
