Free Classical Concert Tonight
Boston Landmarks Orchestra at the Hatch Shell
Pack a picnic and head out after work tonight for a free concert at the Hatch Shell courtesy of the Boston Landmarks Orchestra.
Founded in 2001 by noted conductor Charles Ansbacher, the BLO is one of the few professional orchestras nationwide whose mission is to perform all free concerts. Close to half a million people have enjoyed their performances in the Boston area in the last decade.
Ansbacher died of a brain tumor last September but the BLO’s new music director, Christopher Wilkins, continues his mission of bringing free music to the city.
Tonight’s concert, titled “Green Masterpieces,” includes music inspired by nature. Among the program’s offerings are Felix Mendelssohn’s Hebrides Overture, op. 26 (Fingal’s Cave); Antonio Vivaldi’s The Four Seasons ("Autumn" and "Winter"), featuring violin soloist Megumi Stohs; Ástor Piazzolla’s The Four Seasons of Buenos Aires ("Spring" and "Summer"), again with Stohs on violin; Tchaikovsky’s Variations on a Rococo Theme, op. 33, with Sebastian Bäverstam on cello; and Aaron Copland’s "Corral Nocturne," "Saturday Night Waltz," and "Hoe Down" from Rodeo.
Former Boston Symphony Orchestra soloist Ronald Feldman will be tonight’s guest conductor, and Ray Brown from the WGBH 99.5 classical radio station will host.

The Boston Landmarks Orchestra will perform tonight, July 27, and every Wednesday through August 31. Admission is free.
To get to the Hatch Shell, take the MBTA’s Green Line to the Arlington stop or take an outbound Red Line train to the Charles/MGH stop. Walk down Arlington Street toward Beacon Street and cross toward the Arthur Fiedler Walkway, which will be right in front of you. After crossing the walkway, the Hatch Shell will be on the right.
