Students Pay Nothing for Concerts, Steep Discounts for Faculty and Staff
Free Boston Pops tickets with College Card
This summer, Boston University students can attend Boston Pops concerts for free, and faculty and staff can receive discounted prices by using their Boston Symphony Orchestra College Card. The cards are distributed by the College of Fine Arts, which partnered up with the BSO two years ago to enable cash-strapped students to enjoy the renowned orchestra. Cards are available in the CFA dean’s office, Room 230, 855 Commonwealth Ave., or at the George Sherman Union second floor information desk.
As well as Pops concerts, students can attend open rehearsals free. Simply bring your card to the Symphony Hall box office as early as the Monday of the week you want to attend. Tickets are available on a first-come, first-served basis (one free ticket per card). Keep in mind that Pops tickets go quickly. Staff and faculty can purchase half-price tickets to the same events following the steps above. Cardholders can register their cards on the BSO website to receive email notifications of upcoming concerts and blackout dates.
The season kicks off with a tribute to the music of Judy Garland, featuring Broadway actress Linda Eder (May 11, 12, and 13). Other concerts include “Hooray for Hollywood,” a salute to movie scores conducted by Oscar-winning composer and Boston Pops conductor laureate John Williams (May 25, 26, and 28), and a concert featuring the Boston Pops Gospel Choir on June 18. Michael Feinstein and Ricky Skaggs are among other artists who will appear with the Pops. The free ticket offer is available for any Boston Pops 2011 spring season concert except for College Nights, which are May 13, 20, and 24 and June 8 and 11
College Cards are available at the CFA dean’s office, 855 Commonwealth Ave., Room 230, and at the George Sherman Union second floor information desk, 775 Commonwealth Ave. The Boston Pops 2011 schedule can be found here.
