Boston Public Library features Bond flicks
We all hit middle age sometime. It’s been a half-century since Dr. No introduced Sean Connery as James Bond, and the Boston Public Library marks the occasion with the screening of five Bond films on Wednesday afternoons this summer at its West End branch.
First up: Goldfinger (1964), on Wednesday, June 6. With Connery, Gert Frobe as the titular villain, and Shirley Bassey belting out the now iconic theme song that launched exponential record sales and helped turn James Bond into a lucrative franchise and pop-culture phenomenon, Goldfinger is the third in the series and Connery’s third outing as the invincible MI6 agent.
Celebrating 50 Years of James Bond screens Wednesdays at 3 p.m. at the West End Branch Library, 151 Cambridge St., Boston, 617-523-3957. The library is accessible by the MBTA’s Green line; directions are available here. The films are rated PG or PG-13 and are free. After Goldfinger, the schedule is: June 13, Diamonds Are Forever (1971); June 20, Live and Let Die (1973); June 27, Casino Royale (2006); and July 11, Quantum of Solace (2008).
