Harvard museum scavenger hunt prepares for new superhero movie

One of the summer’s most eagerly anticipated blockbusters, The Amazing Spider-Man is still two and a half weeks away from hitting the big screen, but true arachnophiles won’t have to wait until then to get their fix of spiders. In anticipation of the movie’s July 3 release, the Harvard Museum of Natural History is sponsoring a summer-long educational scavenger hunt exhibition beginning June 16.
The Spider-Sense! Scavenger Hunt is a map-guided tour that introduces the uninitiated to spiders, from their “astounding diversity” to “the elegant adaptations which have allowed their survival for tens of millions of years,” according to the museum’s website. On exhibit, among other things, are a live tarantula, fossils of spider ancestors, and hidden spiders and similar creatures (don’t worry, not live ones) scattered in the museum’s various galleries. Signage indicating the general location will keep the hunt from dragging on forever as well as provide information about the concealed creatures.
The Harvard Museum of Natural History, 26 Oxford St., Cambridge, is open from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. daily. Find directions here. Admission for nonmembers is $9 for adults, $7 for seniors and non-Harvard students, and $6 for children 3 to 18; free for members.
