If you’re looking for a refreshing, no-cost way to cool down on a hot summer afternoon, come to Boston’s Harpoon Brewery for a free beer tasting. The brewery offers complimentary samplings of its Harpoon and UFO beers every weekday at 2 and 4 p.m. Admission is first-come, first-served, so you may want to arrive early, especially on Fridays, when the Tasting Room fills fast. But wait, there’s more. With the beer, you get a short lecture on the brewing process and the history of Harpoon, which goes way back to 1986.
For a closer look at the brewing process, come on the weekend for a $5 guided tour, followed by a beer tasting for people 21 and older. The price covers a souvenir glass and a donation to Harpoon Helps, the brewery’s philanthropic arm. Tours are also first-come, first-served and run every half hour.
Tired after that beer? Through the end of May, nearby Waterfront District restaurant Trade is giving out free espresso shots and energy bars between 3 and 5 p.m. to all bikers who stop in wearing helmets. The freebies are in honor of National Bike Month, a favorite event of the owners, who will host a bike ride and brunch fundraising event in June to raise money for the Dana-Farber Cancer Institute. Tickets for this event can be purchased here. Thursday, May 31, is the last day to take advantage of the free espresso and energy bar offer.
Harpoon Brewery is at 306 Northern Ave., Boston, inside the Marine Industrial Park. To get there, take the MBTA Green Line inbound to Park Street and then transfer to the Red Line to South Station; from there take the Silver Line SL2 Bus four stops to the Northern Ave. at Harbor St. stop, which is directly across the street from the brewery.
