A packed BU Shuttle bus was struck by an illegally turning van this morning on Commonwealth Avenue, according to the Boston University Police Department. No one was hurt in the crash, which happened shortly after 10 a.m., but the bus’s windshield was cracked. The bus was eastbound on Comm Ave when a westbound Honda Odyssey van tried to turn left off the avenue onto Essex Street near the BU Bridge. BUPD Sergeant Larry Manning said that is a no-left-turn intersection.
The driver of the van, who parked it on Essex Street, declined to give his name, explaining, “Honestly, I’m shaken up. I don’t have anything to say.” Manning did not have the driver’s name immediately available.
The sergeant estimated that the bus carried 50 passengers at the time of the accident. He said it is “unknown at this time” whether there will be charges in the crash, which is under investigation by University and Boston police.
Billy Haggar, director of parking and transportation services, says BU bus service is operating on its normal schedule.
