Eating Ice Cream for a Cause
Annual Jimmy Fund Scooper Bowl kicks off today
The country’s largest all-you-can-eat ice cream festival returns today to City Hall Plaza, an annual, and welcome, harbinger of summer for Bostonians. Over three days, the Jimmy Fund Scooper Bowl will serve up more than 40 flavors of ice cream, frozen yogurt, and dairy-free frozen treats—and you can indulge guilt-free: 100 percent of the proceeds support the Dana-Farber Cancer Institute’s life-saving work.
Baskin-Robbins, Ben & Jerry’s, Breyer’s, Delish by Walgreens, Edy’s, Friendly’s, Hood, Orange Leaf, and Yeungling’s Ice Cream will be dishing out unlimited scoops, ranging from novelty flavors like caramel popcorn, red velvet, and fried ice cream to classics like coffee and French vanilla.
Since the fundraiser began in 1983, it has raised over $4.5 million for cancer research and care.
Entertainment will be provided by several live bands, among them South & Main, Amy and the Engine, and Dalton and the Sheriffs, with additional music courtesy of radio station Kiss 108. There’s no better way kick off your summer, and you’ll be supporting a great cause at the same time.
The Jimmy Fund Scooper Bowl is at Boston’s City Hall Plaza today, Tuesday, June 2, through Thursday, June 4. The event is open from noon to 8 p.m. Tuesday and Thursday, and noon to 10 p.m. Wednesday. Tickets are $10 for adults and children 10 or older, $5 for children 3 to 9, and can be purchased in advance online or at the door. Discounted rates for groups of 15 of more are also available ($8 for adults and $3 for children). For those who plan to go more than once, consider purchasing a Scooper Pass, $20 for three-time entrance to the festival. A full list of vendors and flavors can be found here. Take any MBTA Green Line trolley to Park Street and walk down Tremont Street to City Hall Plaza.
