With 15 BU schools and colleges offering graduate study, the University’s menu of postbachelor programs can bewilder many an undergrad. That fact and a desire to increase graduate applications has persuaded administrators that it’s time to showcase the programs to undergraduates throughout the region. So tomorrow, BU will host its first-ever University-wide Graduate and Professional School Open House, which will run for three hours at Metcalf Hall, starting at 1:30 p.m.
“The intended audience is really our undergrads, the undergrads across greater Boston and Cambridge and extending to neighboring states, and working professionals contemplating a career change or advancement within their organizations,” says Timothy Barbari, associate provost for graduate affairs.
Because this is the inaugural stab at such an event, Barbari isn’t certain how many people to expect, but he predicts that it could run to the hundreds, with walk-ins as well as those who preregistered welcome. Register here.
“We want increased exposure of the excellent graduate and professional programs that we have at BU, which will in turn lead to more applications,” he says. “With increased attention being paid to growing enrollments in master’s and other professional programs, building a deeper applicant pool is critical to maintaining quality as we grow.”
In addition to learning about the programs, there’s another reason to go, says Patricia O’Brien, assistant provost for graduate enrollment management: “We’ll be raffling off some cool prizes,” including an Apple watch, an iPad mini, a Fitbit, and gift certificates to local establishments.
The BU Graduate and Professional School Open House will be held tomorrow, Friday, October 23, in the George Sherman Union’s Metcalf Hall, 775 Commonwealth Ave., from 1:30 to 4:30 p.m. The event is free and open to the public; walk-ins welcome or preregister here for a chance to win an Apple watch.
