All They Want for Christmas Is You
BU musicians perform their take on Mariah Carey holiday standard
In December 2016, a group of BU musicians—four vocalists and a jazz ensemble—recorded their take on the Mariah Carey and Walter Afanasieff holiday standard “All I Want for Christmas Is You” in an Allston studio. The song, an immediate critical and popular hit when Carey introduced it in 1994, is now a Christmas classic. Rolling Stone ranked it fourth on its Greatest Rock & Roll Christmas Songs list, and last year it hit 11 on the Billboard Hot 100.
The BU musicians are Jordan Shulman (CAS’17), Alexis James (COM’18, Questrom’18), Emma Seslowsky (COM’18), and Malik Hatcher (Questrom’18), along with the jazz combo 4thirty, featuring bassist Simon Nichols (CAS’17), saxophonist Jesse Colford (CFA’18), drummer Drew Faria (CAS’19), and pianist Ben Colgan (CAS’20, CFA’20).
A film crew of current and former BU students created a winter set, complete with snow and holiday lights. Our thanks to them and to all the participating musicians.
