  1. Enough. This is a loss for the collectivist “let’s stick together; I can’t do anything alone” attitude that leftists so adore. I have yet to arrive on campus, but the indoctrination is killing me. It might be a “health problem.” (Like guns.)

    1. Since guns are used to injure & kill people, they are indeed a health problem. PS, when you actually arrive, guns aren’t allowed. Leave yours at home.

  2. If ye love wealth better than liberty, the tranquility of servitude better than the animating contest of freedom, go home from us in peace. We ask not your counsels or arms. Crouch down and lick the hands which feed you. May your chains set lightly upon you, and may posterity forget that ye were our countrymen.

    -Samuel Adams

  3. Perhaps those who voted to leave the EU are satisfied they have taken a stand against the imposition of policy that devalues British independence and has marginalized the strong desires of many Brits to not be part of the “new world order” via the EU? Scotland has not yet been fully exposed to the open border invasions and criminal actions of undocumented “refugees” who have no incentive to assimilate or respect the countries that place them on the dole at their citizens’ expense. The Scots are proud and independent people; who really knows how they will react once their history and their values are threatened.

  4. In the 2nd half of the 20th century European unity finally ended centuries of bloody, destructive wars. Unity brought peace, which in turn brought prosperity. Anything that weakens unity strengthens the forces that cause tension & conflicts. This is not an endorsement of EU bureaucracy, which favors investors & predatory entrepreneurs far too much. But caving in to the advocates of intolerance & chauvinist nationalism will not yield any real benefits. Not to mention that the Leave leaders lied to the voters, only admitting it the day after (i.e., there is no L350,000,000 to spend on Natl Health Service). And of course there was the vulture Donald Strumpet, saying Brexit was good for all b/c it may boost profits for HIS golf resort! Bah.

  5. Good point overall, Myriam, but nationalism has been a mixed bag. It’s fostered pride among downtrodden people & stimulated much literature, art, & history writing, & helped languages to survive & flourish. But nationalist chauvinism, which can discriminate against & target other nations, is indeed bad, & has caused many violent conflicts. Below are a couple of classic works that help to understand nationalism.

Hans Kohn, The Idea of Nationalism [& many others by HK]
    Benedict Anderson, Imagined Communities
Liah Greenfield, Nationalism [by BU prof]
Stephen Grosby, Nationalism: A Very Short Introduction
