Have an Ugly Holiday Sweater? We Want You.
BU Today to feature photo contest, with prizes

They’ve become as much a part of Christmas as tinsel and inflatable lawn Santas. We’re talking ugly holiday sweaters. You know, those tacky but beloved garments festooned with cavorting reindeer, snowmen, Santas, and candy canes, with lots of glitter, pom-poms, and other appliques thrown in for good measure. Over the past decade, ugly holiday sweaters have become big business—with books, TV shows, and websites devoted to the subject.
To celebrate the season, BU Today is hosting an ugly holiday sweater photo contest. We’re looking for anyone brave enough to don their holiday attire and have their picture taken next week. Come in groups or by yourself. Prizes will be awarded to those modeling the top three ugliest sweaters.
Photos will be taken Monday, December 12, from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m., and Tuesday, December 13, from 1 to 4 p.m., in our studio at 985 Comm Ave. We’ll announce the three winners and run a photo essay on Friday, December 16.
Anyone interested in taking part should email John O’Rourke at orourkej@bu.edu by noon on Friday, December 9. Be sure to include your phone number, a description of your sweater, and the time you’re free to have your photo taken.
