Boston police responded to a shooting near Boston Medical Center in Roxbury early Monday afternoon. The incident happened at 1:40 p.m. near the intersection of Melnea Cass Boulevard and Massachusetts Avenue. Police were dispatched to investigate a report of a man shot in the face. Police cordoned off the sidewalk at the corner, including a dirt area where people often congregate. Police tape also surrounded an adjacent hotel parking lot, the Boston Globe reports. Police say that the area has been been cleared, and normal traffic has been restored.
The BU Police Department first heard of the incident via police scanner and were sent immediately to the scene, which is near the Crosstown Center, where several School of Medicine faculty have offices. Boston EMS transported the victim to a trauma center. The shooter, who was on a bicycle at the time of the incident, fled the scene, away from the Medical Campus, and is being sought by Boston police, according to Connie Packard, Medical Campus executive director of support services. Boston police are currently examining surveillance video of the incident.
The Boston Globe reports that the victim is in stable condition.
