Things to Cross Off Your Senior Bucket List
How many of these 13 do you have left to do?
With less than a week left until Commencement, there are probably a few last-minute things you, the Class of 2017, are trying to pack in before you graduate, and for many say, good-bye to Boston. Pulling from lists compiled by the Dean of Student’s office and BU Tweets, we created our own BU bucket list for seniors.
Let us know in the Comment section below if there’s anything we forgot, and we might add it in a future edition.
1. Conquer Rhett’s Challenge
Rhett’s has abbreviated hours this Senior Week, but if you’re feeling up to it at lunch, you can try to win Rhett’s Challenge. Just ask a cashier for a manager or tweet @BUDiningService to get enrolled and start eating.
2. Try FitRec’s rock climbing wall or lazy river
Both these FitRec features earned notice in the latest Princeton Review rankings and are routinely bragged about on the Admissions tour, so you should at least try them before you graduate.
3. Walk the Freedom Trail
Follow this 2.5 mile red brick or painted line that weaves through downtown Boston and chronicles the role Boston and its citizens played in the American Revolution. Among the highlights: Paul Revere’s House, Faneuil Hall, and Boston Common.
4. Experience a New England clambake
Savor clams, lobster, potatoes, and corn on the cob, served in a big bucket with plenty of drawn butter. Find a list of restaurants in the Boston area that serve the classic New England meal here.
5. Travel the Charles River, by boat
You have options—kayak, canoe, sailboat, or the less physically challenging Duck Boat.
6. Sing some karaoke at T’s Tuesdays
It will be your last time to belt out “Like a Prayer” or “Don’t Stop Believing” on a Tuesday night at T’s Pub.
7. Devour a mound of nachos at Sunset Cantina
Load ’em up: pick from chili, BBQ, Cajun, or buffalo chicken, pulled pork, taco beef, jalapenos, guacamole, sour cream, black olives, and more.
8. Visit Boston museums for free—or pretty close to it
By flashing your BU ID, the Museum of Fine Arts Boston, the Isabella Stewart Gardner Museum, and the Harvard Art Museums are free. Other museums in the Boston area are heavily discounted. Find a full list here.
9. Eat a cannoli at either Mike’s Pastry or Modern Pastry… or both
The battle of the North End’s best bakeries is on.
10. Take in the city from the Boston Harbor Islands
Ferries bring you to Georges and Spectacle Islands and offer great skyline panoramas.
11. Take a selfie with Dean Elmore and/or Rhett
They will be floating around this week, without a doubt. Just be sure to ask politely.
12. Picnic in the Public Garden or Boston Common
Take a Swan Boat ride while you’re at it.
13. Finally step foot on the BU Seal (but not before graduation!)
BU legend has it that if a student walks on the BU seal before Commencement, said student won’t graduate. However, if you step on it inadvertently, according to lore, there’s still hope as long as you rush across Marsh Plaza and into Marsh Chapel.
