In the world of appetizers, few are as popular as the humble Buffalo chicken wing. First introduced at the Anchor Bar in Buffalo, New York, in 1964 (hence the name), the dish has skyrocketed in popularity, becoming ubiquitous on the menus of sports bars, diners, and restaurants. Today, you can order them not just hot and spicy (traditional Buffalo wings), but sweet, fried, smoked, and just about any other way you can imagine. Chicken wings have become such a staple that Americans now consume more than 27 billion wings a year (1.33 billion alone during Super Bowl weekend), enough to circle the Earth more than twice.
Tomorrow, wing-lovers from coast to coast will celebrate National Chicken Wing Day. To mark the occasion, BU Today reached out to students to ask for recommendations on the best places to order tasty wings in Boston. Below are their suggestions, with a brief description of what each place is best known for. So tomorrow, head out and join in the National Chicken Wing Day fun.
