The baseball season is only two months old, but already, Boston Red Sox fans are dreaming of another World Series. After finishing as division champions the last two years, the team is currently first in the American League East. Tonight, they take on the Detroit Tigers in the final game of a three-game series. It promises to be an exciting game, as the Tigers—ranked second in the AL’s Central division—have proven themselves a worthy adversary. Tickets to tonight’s game are still available (many at reasonable prices).
The Boston Red Sox have eight World Series titles under their belt, most recently in 2013 when they beat the St. Louis Cardinals 4-2. The Tigers have captured four World Series titles. Their most recent appearance was in 2012, when they were routed by the San Francisco Giants 4-0.
Originally constructed in 1912, Fenway Park is the oldest Major League ballpark still in operation. Home to such renowned players as Babe Ruth (before he decamped for the New York Yankees), Ted Williams, Manny Ramirez, and David Ortiz (Hon.’17), the ballpark is steeped in history. Red Sox fans may want to arrive early to take a guided one-hour tour to explore the inner workings of the iconic ballpark. You’ll learn about baseball’s oldest manual scoreboard, view the 10 most memorable moments in Red Sox history, and tour the Fenway Archive, which includes baseballs, bats, and uniforms worn by players over the decades. Be sure to take a selfie from atop the storied Green Monster. More information about the tours can be found here and tickets to today’s tours can be purchased at the ballpark while supplies last. (Tickets are $20 for adults, $14 for kids 12 and under. Tours leave on the hour and last approximately one hour.)
Be sure to come hungry to tonight’s game. In addition to their classic Kayem Fenway Franks, peanuts, and beer (plenty of beer), Fenway offers diners everything from Boston lager–braised short rib grilled cheese sandwiches to lobster rolls, chicken tacos, crab rolls, and build-your-own salads.
