To Do Today: Jimmy Fund Scooper Bowl
Kick off the summer by eating lots of ice cream in support of a good cause

The summer is finally here, and with it comes the 37th annual Jimmy Fund Scooper Bowl. The all-you-can-eat ice cream extravaganza is held at City Hall Plaza and accompanied by three days of live entertainment.
Nearly 40 years ago the Jimmy Fund Scooper Bowl started when four local ice cream vendors came together to serve a crowd of 1,000 people. One vendor, Hendries Ice Cream, thought to donate the proceeds to the Jimmy Fund, which provides adult and pediatric cancer care at Boston’s Dana-Farber Cancer Institute. This sweet idea has had an enormous impact over the years, with the festival collecting $6.7 million for cancer research to date.
This year, 10 ice cream companies, including Ben & Jerry’s, Baskin Robbins, Friendly’s, and Hood, will come armed with 40 flavors, like sea salt caramel, mango passion fruit, and lactose-free cookies and cream. Companies such as Boston 25 News and the Coca-Cola Bottling Company of Northern New England are major sponsors for the event.
Several live bands, among them DJ Pup Dawg, South and Main, the Daybreakers, Surfliner, and the All You Got Tour, will be performing throughout the festival as well.
In addition to the main festivities, there is a special event on June 6 for those 21-plus: Scoop@Night, dubbed the “sweetest happy hour in Boston.” Patrons will be treated to two adult beverages, live music, and the choice of 18 flavors of unlimited ice cream.
So pick up a spoon and start eating toward a good cause.
The Jimmy Fund Scooper Bowl is held at Boston’s City Hall Plaza Tuesday, June 4, Wednesday, June 5, and Thursday, June 6, from noon to 8 pm. Purchase tickets ($15 for adults and children 10 and older and $10 for children 3 to 9) in advance here.
Scoop at Night (21+) is on Thursday, June 6, from 5 to 8 pm, and requires a valid ID to enter. Tickets are $30 and include unlimited ice cream and two adult beverages. Purchase tickets in advance here.
Take any MBTA Green Line trolley to Park Street and walk down Tremont Street to City Hall Plaza.
