Why should I go?
The Somerville Theatre’s Play It Cool Series presents a curated selection of classic Hollywood films screened in 35mm in anticipation of Quentin Tarantino’s upcoming film Once Upon a Time in Hollywood. Among recent screenings have been Sunset Boulevard, Tropic Thunder, and Get Shorty, all centering on the glitz and glamour of Hollywood as well as its darker elements.
Wednesday night the Play It Cool series presents a double feature: two classic ’50s thrillers, The Bad and the Beautiful, starring Kirk Douglas and Lana Turner, and The Big Knife, with Oscar winner Jack Palance. Both films feature ruthless producers, embattled movie stars, and Hollywood’s Golden Age. Once Upon a Time in Hollywood is set in that same era. The Play It Cool series will pause for a few weeks to show the new film. With a stellar cast headed by Leonardo DiCaprio and Brad Pitt, it also features Margot Robbie, Al Pacino, and Kurt Russell. The film premieres at the Somerville Theatre on Thursday, July 25.
