To Do Today: Jazz in the Park
What? Jazz in the Park
When? July 9, 16, 23, and 30, from 6 to 7:30 pm
Where? North End Greenway Park (at the intersection of North and Cross Streets)
How much? Free
Why should I go? Hear contemporary jazz with an international influence at a series of four free concerts this month presented by the North End Music & Performing Arts Center. Artistic director Stefano Marchese, a recent recipient of the Music Education Award from Berklee College of Music and Boston Conservatory, showcases local talent with a selection of Latin, funky, Mediterranean, and world music that promises to take the audience on a “music journey of inclusion, equity, and diversity,” according to the Jazz in the Park website.
The Latin jazz trio MIXCLA kicks off the series tonight, followed in the upcoming weeks by singer Gabrielle Goodman, Marchese’s Italian music band Scanzonati, and fusion band Sawaari. Led by composer, pianist, and singer Zahili Gonzalez Zamora, MIXCLA creates an Afro Cuban jazz experience by incorporating sounds from Chile, Japan, and Cuba, with Gerson Esteban Lazo Quiroga on bass and Takafumi Nikaido on percussion.
Special to the event, Boston Public Market has three cheese and charcuterie picnic options available for purchase, at $44.99, $64.99, and $74.99 each. Preorder online at least 24 hours before the event and pick up your basket before the concert at the Boston Public Market information desk, 100 Hanover St., Boston.
