  3. Congratulations to Mary Ann on her retirement after decades of service to the university and her incredible commitment to students. It’s been a pleasure working with you all these years, particularly on the video about the outstanding BUILD program, one of your proudest accomplishments. Well done, my friend. 5. This is a wonderful tribute for a wonderful colleague.

Mary Ann, it has been so great to work with you for more than 20 years, and not just because you saved me from many a scrape over those years!

However, I only learned today that you would have been supporting me behind the scenes when I was a work study student at Special Collections!

I was a non-traditional transfer student from 1992 – 1994, probably 25 years old. I had been on my own for some time and was borrowing against my future to finish my English degree here at BU. Boston University gave me an incredibly generous financial aid package but I still had to borrow a considerable sum; my work study job was a lifeline. I’m so pleased to know that it was you, Mary Ann, behind the scenes, supporting me during that important time.

Thank you to Joel and our friends at BUToday for giving me this story!

  6. CONGRATULATIONS Mary Ann! I was truly lucky to work with you as a student at the Student Employment Office so many years ago. I’ll never forget the Quickie Job Board – this was back when it was index cards hung on a wall! Thank you for your service to the University, and best wishes for your retirement.

  7. Congratulations on your retirement, and thank you for everything you have done for BU and so many of us across campus! Wishing you the best, and a well deserved break!

  8. A note to thank Mary Ann for her assistance with my work-study placement and off-campus job opportunities- without either, I wouldn’t have paid off tuition! A decade later, I still refer people to the office if they need staffing support. Thank you again for your service and contributions. Enjoy retirement!

  9. Congrats on your retirement, Mary Ann! I worked with you, Alex and Moira 15 years ago and at the time thought it was funny that my work-study job was getting other students work-study jobs. I ended up loving it. Flash forward a few years and my ability to fill out an I-9 opened the door for me in a career in creative and marketing staffing in LA. I get people jobs for a living now!

Thank you for your guidance and for helping me find a career I’m passionate about.

  10. Mary Ann’s heart and enthusiasm for her role at BU is contagious. She has served the BU community with integrity and compassion. Mary Ann’s contributions to the community will be a lasting legacy for so many.
