Navigating the first two weeks of classes has been quite the adjustment. Take a little time this weekend to pick up some great food, hunt for some quirky clothes or artwork, decompress with exercise, and meet some new faces.
Sunset Cantina
One of BU students’ favorite Comm Ave spots is back this fall: Sunset Cantina reopened September 5 after shutting down in March because of the coronavirus pandemic. The Tex-Mex restaurant and bar in West Campus is known for its massive nachos and sizzling fajitas, extensive beer list, and several special margaritas. A 2019 BU Today profile of the spot’s new owners reported that all sauces and salsas are made in-house. Sunset has indoor and outdoor seating.
Sunset Cantina, 916 Commonwealth Ave., is open daily, Sunday to Thursday, 11 am to 1 am, and Friday and Saturday, 11 am to 2 am; phone: 617-731-8646. The restaurant accepts all major credit cards.
Vivant Vintage
With over 1,200 square feet to wander and hundreds of vintage items ranging from jewelry and clothes to furniture and artwork, you’ll be sure to find something to take home from this Allston spot. Vivant (pronounced “vee-vant”) Vintage also has an online store for those wanting to avoid public spaces in this time of COVID-19.
Hours for Vivant Vintage are 11 am to 6 pm at the brick-and-mortar store at 318 Lincoln St. Allston. Check out the online selection and keep updated on hours, sales, and events on the store’s Instagram page.
Peer Led Community Yoga
Grab your roommates, clear some space, and unroll your mat for this free virtual yoga class led by Meghan Walsh (SPH’21). After the last two weeks of classes, this yoga session is a great way to de-stress and relax in between assignments and extracurriculars. All levels of experience are welcome.
The Peer Led Community Yoga class is Friday, September 11, from 9 to 10 am. Join the Zoom class here.
Thurman Center Black Community Reception
The Howard Thurman Center for Common Ground (HTC) will host its annual Black Community Reception via Zoom. The HTC welcomes all members of the Black community—students, faculty, and staff—to attend, meet new friends, and virtually mingle. First-year students are especially encouraged to attend this virtual event.
The Black Community Reception is Thursday, September 10, at 5:30 pm; join the Zoom call here. For more information, check out the HTC website.
