  1. In this day and age the use of the word “queer” is not helpful in describing homosexuality. It’s hurtful, disrespectful and discourteous. The writers and other highly educated persons should know better than to use a slanderous word heard in school yards.

  2. In her article, Kathryn Lamontagne states that “the CDF took the time to reiterate that homosexuality ‘must be accepted with respect, compassion, and sensitivity. Every sign of unjust discrimination in their regard should be avoided.'”

Most likely unintentionally, Lamontagne’s placement of the quote is misleading, noting that the CDF’s responsum to the dubium did not state this. When writing about “respect” and “unjust discrimination”, the responsum references “persons with homosexual inclinations”, not *homosexuality* (as stated by Lamontagne).

This distinction is an important one.
