Commencement 2022 is here! We understand that planning your weekend festivities with family may require a bit of creative thinking. Not to worry—we’ve got you covered. Explore campus, take photos, and experience the city of Boston with this list of activities to do with your family during Commencement weekend.

Bring your Boston University career full circle and become a tour guide for a day. Guide your family through a personalized day in your life as a Terrier. You can even make it a walking graduation photoshoot. Check out the best campus spots for graduation pictures here

Picnic on the BU Beach

Who doesn’t love a good family picnic? The BU Beach is decked out with lawn chairs, lights, tents, and the sound of waves (aka the cars on Storrow Drive). Order some takeout from your favorite campus restaurants, like Nud Pod, Pavement, Cane’s, or Panda Express, and get comfortable. One note: space will be limited since some parts are being blocked off for Commencement weekend activities.

If you haven’t already got your graduation outfit, make it a family mission to check out Newbury Street. Peruse all the fashionable shops, like Zara, Intermix, Revolve, and Lit! and treat yourself to an outdoor meal at Greco, Stephanie’s, Sonsie, Serafina, or one of many other delicious restaurants.

Take a walk in the Arnold Arboretum

Get outside and enjoy the nice weather by exploring the Arnold Arboretum of Harvard University. The arboretum is 281 acres of botanical beauty. You can bike or stroll around the landscape and appreciate the beautiful flowers and trees.

Pro tip: check out Peters Hill for a glorious view of the Boston skyline.

Attend a Red Sox game

A visit to Boston isn’t complete without going to a Red Sox game at Fenway Park. Lucky for you, the Red Sox have home games all weekend long. Buy some tickets and cheer on the home team as they take on the Angels.

Pro tip: Boston University students are eligible for $9 tickets.

Check out one of Boston’s many museums

Boston is a hotspot for museums. Visit the Museum of Fine Arts Boston, the Institute of Contemporary Art, or the Isabella Stewart Gardner Museum. We binged on the Gardner Museum Netflix documentary about the notorious 1990 theft of the museum’s priceless artworks and wanted to see the blank wall.

Pro tip: Boston University students qualify for free admission/discounted rates at Boston museums.

We hope you and your family have an amazing weekend exploring Boston. And make sure to tag us in your posts. We cannot wait to celebrate with you on Sunday at the Commencement ceremonies. Congratulations, Class of 2022, you did it!
