Alene Bouranova is a Pacific Northwest native and a BU alum (COM’16). After earning a BS in journalism, she spent four years at Boston magazine writing, copyediting, and managing production for all publications. These days, she covers campus happenings, current events, and more for BU Today. Fun fact: she’s still using her Terrier card from 2013. When she’s not writing about campus, she’s trying to lose her Terrier card so BU will give her a new one. She lives in Cambridge with her plants. Profile

There are 6 comments on What Does the Attack on Democracy Mean for Journalists?

  1. This is comical. Somehow “journalists” are the victim when they are the ones propagating the divisive misinformation. The mainstream media has been attacking democracy for much longer than Trump has.

    1. Yes they skew left, slightly in most cases, but still at the top center of the chart, which is where you should want to get more accurate news.

Look at where most of the right wing media is on the chart, especially the most well known sources. Skewing much further right, and most tellingly, much further down, at the bottom of the Mixed Reliability box.

  2. “How are you supposed to feel watching the city you live and work in come under siege by people who see you as the enemy and call for the murder of anyone in your profession?”

Ask cops in Minneapolis, Seattle, Portland, Chicago…

    …they know.

  3. CNN isn’t the most credible of sources on the matter of “disinformation”, as the prime purveyor of the “peaceful protests” narrative all summer and fall in reference to the violent blm-antifa riots in Minneapolis, LA, Seattle, D.C., Portland, NYC, Chicago, Kenosha, Lancaster etc. etc., which destroyed sections of cities, burned businesses (particularly in minority areas), attacked residents and police, and resulted in multiple deaths. CNN is at the vanguard of the leftist media bias in America and presents “opinion” disguised as “news” that fits Jeff Zucker’s personal political agenda.

I’d be pleasantly surprised if my opinion isn’t censored in this BU forum as it appears that “free speech” on campuses these days tends to cancel all but woke, leftist, virtue-signaling. We’ll see.
