Eat, shop, go
Spend a pleasant fall day browsing the shelves of Beacon Hill’s new bookstore or indulge in chicken parmesan, spicy rigatoni, and other Italian favorites at Parm. Also this weekend: challenge friends to a round of tech-infused mini golf, catch a performance of BU on Broadway’s The Drowsy Chaperone, and attend Boston’s Veterans Day Parade. And don’t forget to set your clocks back an hour Saturday night, since daylight saving time ends on Sunday, November 6.
Parm
Craving Italian food? Check out Parm, the popular New York City restaurant that recently opened its second Massachusetts location in Copley Place. Known for its chicken parmesan and meatballs, the menu also offers caesar salad, burrata caprese, mozzarella sticks, eggplant parm, chicken francese, and fettuccine alfredo. For dessert, try the Parm Sundae, which includes three scoops of gelato, pistachio, mascarpone, and cherry, topped with whipped cream and a pizzelle cookie. Parm was founded in 2011 by Michelin-star chefs Mario Carbone and Rich Torrisi, as well as restaurateur Jeff Zalaznick. It was featured in Newsweek’s list of 101 Best Places to Eat: North America and its approach to Italian-American classics has garnered praise.
Parm, 100 Huntington Ave., Suite K006A, Boston, is open daily from 11 am to 10 pm.
Beacon Hill Books & Cafe
Beacon Hill Books & Cafe, a new independent bookstore, is the latest addition to Charles Street’s mix of modern and historic haunts. The multistory, woman-owned bookstore features a variety of bestsellers, fiction, nonfiction, young adult, and children’s books, plus a cafe set to open any day. The space will serve a locally sourced menu of drinks, afternoon tea, breakfast, lunch, and light dinner items from chef Colleen Suhanosky (who owns Rifrullo in Brookline). Beacon Hill was once home to many famous writers, including Robert Frost, Sylvia Plath, Louisa May Alcott, Nathaniel Hawthorne, and Henry David Thoreau. Check out Beacon Hill Books’ Instagram for updates, event details, and charming interior shots of the bookstore.
Beacon Hill Books & Cafe, 71 Charles St., Boston, is open from 9 am to 7 pm Tuesday through Saturday, and noon to 5 pm Sunday; closed Monday.
Into the Breeches!
Hub Theatre Company of Boston presents Into the Breeches! an award-winning play written by George Brant. Directed by Bryn Boice, the story is set in 1942 in Boston’s own Oberon Play House. Men are at war overseas, and it seems as though the season must be canceled, until the women decide to stage their own all-female production of Shakespeare’s Henry V. Will their show be a success? All tickets are “pay what you can” and donations of new and gently used children’s toys and books will be collected for local charities at each performance.
Into the Breeches! runs from November 4 to 20 at the Boston Center for the Arts Plaza Theatre, 539 Tremont St., Boston. Performances are at 7:30 pm Thursday through Saturday, and 2 pm Sunday. Purchase tickets here.
Boston Veterans Parade
Since Veterans Day falls on Friday, November 11, the city of Boston will hold its annual parade early this year, which means Bostonians can honor those who served, or serve, this weekend. The parade begins at the Boston Public Library on Boylston Street and ends at the corner of Park and Tremont streets, near the Boston Common, and includes veteran, military, and civic organizations and musical groups. This year’s theme is “Salute to Service,” and its goal is to honor the service and sacrifice of veterans and to thank those who currently serve.
The 2022 Boston Veterans Parade will begin at noon on Saturday, November 5. Find a map of the parade route here.
Puttshack Boston
The world’s first and only “upscale, tech-infused mini golf experience” has arrived in the Seaport. Check out Puttshack Boston, which opened last month, and experience four nine-hole mini golf courses, floor-to-ceiling windows with views of the waterfront, and an energetic vibe featuring local DJs. The two-floor, 26,000-square-foot spot will also include two bars serving cocktails and local beer, plus a main dining area with a globally inspired menu. Puttshack uses patented Trackaball technology for automated scoring, bonus point opportunities, and interactive games at each hole, so you can ditch those golf pencils. Puttshack opened its first location in 2018 and now has two locations in the United States, four in the UK, with more planned to open within the next year.
Puttshack Boston, 58 Pier 4 Blvd., Boston, is open from 11 am to midnight Sunday through Wednesday and 11 am to 1 am Thursday through Saturday. The space becomes 21-plus after 8 pm, with the last tee time at 7 pm. Mini golf is $18 for adults and $10 for juniors 12 and under. Second games are 50 percent off on weekdays before 4 pm.
BU on Broadway Presents The Drowsy Chaperone
Fans of the Roaring Twenties can travel back to the golden age of Broadway with this show-within-a-show. BU on Broadway’s The Drowsy Chaperone runs this weekend, with three performances at the Tsai Performance Center. A love letter to 1920s musical theater, The Drowsy Chaperone is a postmodern cousin of favorites like Chicago and Guys and Dolls, with a fresh, fourth wall–breaking structure. BU’s production is directed by Emma Sawch and choreographed by Kat Daniel.
The Drowsy Chaperone runs Thursday, November 3, through Saturday, November 5, at the Tsai Performance Center, 685 Commonwealth Ave., Boston. Performances begin at 8 pm; purchase tickets, starting at $9, here.
