There are 4 comments on Alum Who Climbed Everest Says She Grappled with “Grief, Loss, Friendship

  1. Life changing but possibly life ending as well, it happened to my good friend and BU alum Nafiun last month in Alaska. Be careful and be prepared for the worst.

  2. Climbing Everest should be banned as the detrimental effects are significant. The area has been trashed over the recent decades resulting in drastic changes to a incredibly fragile ecosystem. It’s now a tourist attraction and not a test of mountaineering. If you need a Sherpa, I’m tempted to say you didn’t climb it.

I understand this is a boon to the Nepalese economy, but surely it is not a sustainable practice. Folks should reevaluate how they travel and more importantly why the travel.

  3. Congratulations to Rebecca and deepest condolences on the loss of her teammate. I’m in Nepal (on a non trekking Fulbright), which gives me even more respect for Rebecca’s accomplishment. Even the “hills” (mountains anywhere else) around Kathmandu aren’t easy to climb.

  4. What an incredible achievement! As anyone who has actually climbed in the Himalayas knows, climbing Everest requires courage, discipline, determination and immense physical, emotional and mental strength. Congratulations to you for challenging yourself and chasing your dream.
