A Toast to the Class of 2020, a one-hour virtual event hosted by Kenneth Elmore (Wheelock’87), associate provost and dean of students (right), was streamed from the George Sherman Union, May 17, 2020. That year’s Commencement was postponed due to the coronavirus pandemic. It eventually took place October 3, 2021, 17 months after graduation.

Mortarboards. Gowns. Smiles. Pictures. Hugs. High fives. Commencement is an annual tradition and this year marks 150 years of Boston University’s main graduation ceremony. In honor of the event on Sunday, May 21, we scoured the archives for some of the best Commencement photos and moments and biggest celebrity appearances through the years. It’s been a remarkable run.
