Boston Symphony Orchestra
Calling all classical music connoisseurs. Did you know that the Boston Symphony Orchestra offers a college card allowing students to see the world-renowned orchestra free of charge (after an initial $30 fee, but still…). This weekend, German conductor Joana Mallwitz and Russian pianist Anna Vinnitskaya will perform Tchaikovsky’s beloved Piano Concerto No. 1, which originally premiered at Boston’s Music Hall in 1875. The BSO will then combine traditional Hungarian folk melodies and symphonic context with the lively Dances of Galánta (1933). Written near the end of Schubert’s life and premiered almost a decade after his tragic death, The Great will close the star-studded show.
Thursday, November 2, at 7:30 pm, Friday, November 3, at 1:30 pm, and Saturday, November 4, at 8 pm, Boston Symphony Hall, 301 Massachusetts Ave., Boston.
Québec Winter Wonderland and Carnival
Transport yourself to Québec City this Friday (without the travel hassle) at Boston Seaport’s winter-themed pop-up event, featuring classic carnival activities, from live ice sculpting to snowball cornhole. Try the classic Francophone treat sucrerie de la montagne, (maple candy of the snow) and snap a quick pic with the official mascot—Bonhomme—while you’re there. The event is hosted by Bonjour Québec, the city’s tourism board.

BU Men’s Ice Hockey vs University of North Dakota
The #9 Terrier hockey squad will face off against #3 University of North Dakota this weekend, for the first time since 2013, in a thrilling two-game series at Agganis Arena. You can help BU Student Wellbeing in their fight against hunger by bringing nonperishable food items to any Terrier men’s hockey game in November. Also, note that every student who attends eight games this season gets a free jersey—so start supporting now.
Friday, November 3, and Saturday, November 4, at 7 pm, Agganis Arena.
Fenway Open Studios
The 118-year-old Fenway Studios building is a testament to Boston’s rich artistic and cultural history. Inside the renowned National Historic Landmark–designated building—widely known for being the oldest purpose-built and maintained space for artists in the country—creatives from around the world set up shop to paint various styles, from abstract expressionism to postmodern realism. Check out exhibitions like Moments—Mindfulness and the Practice of Seeing (closing November 12), which explores artists’ deep sense of observation in the practice of art making. Tours around the 46 studios are usually prebooked, but will be open to the public this weekend only for its annual Open Studios.
Saturday, November 4, and Sunday, November 5, from 11 am to 5 pm, 30 Ipswich St., Boston.
