Love Insects? This Club’s for You
Turning over a rock to uncover a swarm of insects isn’t for everybody. But for the 40 members of the Boston University Bug Club, it’s a chance to lean in, discover new insects and their habitats, and bond with other entomology enthusiasts (no science background needed).
“Bugs can be divisive, but people who love bugs really love bugs,” says Reece Ciampitti (CAS’24), who was the club’s president before graduating this past May. “I think that’s definitely a component of why we have a strong membership base.”
The club meets every other Monday evening for a variety of bug-related activities, from trivia to insect pinning sessions to movie nights. Other events: guest lectures from local and BU-affiliated researchers and entomologists, trips to museums (including a private tour of the BU Biology Natural History Museum), and fall and spring outings to locales like the Middlesex Fells and Hammond Pond Reservations, which allow for close observation of insects.
Interested in learning more about the BU Bug Club? Be sure to find them at Splash, BU’s annual fall student activities fair, on Saturday, September 7, on Nickerson Field, from noon to 2 pm.
